Bikram-style Yoga, patterned after the practice developed by Bikram Chondhury, involves a series of 26 poses (asanas) and two breathing techniques (pranayamas) that relax and calm the nervous system, tone the body’s core, aid in weight loss, realign the skeleton, and provide fresh oxygen to every tissue, muscle, organ and gland. Also known as Hot Yoga, it is practiced in a climate-controlled studio of 105 degrees with 40% humidity. The studio’s half-inch thick Zebra Mat is easy on the joints and is antifungal and antibacterial. As long as participants drink plenty of water ahead of time, Bikram-style Yoga is suitable for everyone.
